Mauricoast Ltd is a registered company based in Mauritius.

Mauricoast Ltd main business activity is to promote Aquaculture farming for local distribution and exports.

The Company disposes the appropriate and sufficient seasurface to realize its Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture system at “Bassin Humbert” in the Northeast of the Island of Mauritius, at Poudre D’or Village. It has a 46 hectare lagoon altogether with enough land surface eventually appropriate for implementation of aquaculture hatcheries and for aqua-farming operation.

Mauricoast Ltd has been actively setting up the foundation of the company by building its knowhow to achieve its long-term vision. From 2020 until now, the company has been recognised nationally on three occasions for its innovative technology development. In addition, through its close collaboration with a nutraceutical company, Mauricoast Ltd is gearing towards the development of nutraceutical products from marine resources.

Approach 1

While remaining within the context of aquaculture, the diversification of its activities has been the driving force of the company over the years.

The future of the company is now based on harnessing the knowledge developed from past R&D projects, to the future development of products and services that can be commercialised.

Approach 2

Recognising the importance of the blue economic sector to the country, Mauricoast Ltd is now developing a business model that will incorporate the real value of the natural blue capital into all aspects of its economic activity. The company will not only be focusing on aquaculture activities but will also be developing marine biotechnology, and education/outreach programs to generate awareness about the importance of the marine ecosystem for the wellbeing of our society.

The Minister for Fisheries and Blue Economy of Madagascar, Mr. Paubert Mahatante visit of courtesy at the Mauricoast Aquaculture Research Center.

In November 2022, Mr.Paubert Mahatante visited the Mauricoast Aquaculture Research Center in Mauritius. 

Mr.Paubert Mahatante congratulated the team of Mauricoast Ltd for its engagement and endeavor in promoting new aquaculture technologies and concepts in Mauritius.

Discussions were held on potential transfer of new technologies between Mauritius and Madagascar in regards to aquaculture (more specifically in Red Tilapia fish farming in marine environment).

Mauricoast support initiative to the Ministry of Agro Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries of Mauritius.

Mauricoast Ltd had the privilege to assist the Ministry of Agro Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries by providing sandfish sea cucumber (Holothuria Scabra) broodstock for its Australian Food Aid Program (sea cucumber seed production) held by Dr. Cathy Hair at the Albion Fisheries Research Centre (AFRC) in February 2025.

Dr. Cathy Hair,  Principal Research Officer at University of the Sunshine Coast - Australia, personally visited the Mauricoast Aquaculture Research Center accompanied by AFRC officers for broodstock collection during its project in Mauritius.

Prof. Theesan Bahorun, Executive Director of the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC) and his team visit to Mauricoast Aquaculture Research Center in August 2024.

Site visit at Mauricoast Ltd in the context of the project "Postharvest processing of shellfish from local sources: an automated facility for oyster depuration and storage” funded by the MRIC under the Innovation Boost Grant Scheme under the Blue and Green Innovation Thematics.

Mauricoast Ltd had successfully set up the first state-of-the-art shellfish depuration facility in Mauritius and developed a prototype of a small-scale depuration kit that can be easily accessible to local shellfish fisherfolks and farmers.
